The Eagle Ford Shale is a newly developed oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids producing formation approximately 10,000 to 12,000 feet below the surface in south Texas. With the first well drilled in 2008, a study was recently conducted on the Eagle Ford region and the results were recently issued with much enthusiasm as there is hope the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale formation in southwest MS will also have profitable results. In 2011, Eagle Ford impacted a 20 county region well beyond earlier expectations: $25 billion in total economic impact, approximately 47,000 full-time jobs, roughly $3.1 billion in salaries and benefits paid to workers, more than $257 million in local government revenues, and also more than $358 million in state revenues, including $120.4 million in severance taxes.
