In workforce development, strong public/private partnerships have resulted in the most successful models around Mississippi. Recently, Chevron announced a $1.2 million commitment to Jackson County schools to establish a “Fab Lab”, a facility with cutting edge manufacturing equipment that will allow students to have a hands-on manufacturing experience. Jobs provided by Chevron and other manufacturers across the region typically pay twice the private sector average, or more. Further, these high-tech careers are evermore in demand. Public/private initiatives, like the Fab Lab and Get on the Grid, aim to raise awareness of these opportunities to encourage more young Mississippians to pursue good career paths.
