Rick Perry, Governor of Texas and 2012 Presidential Candidate, will deliver the keynote address at the 2014 Governor’s Energy Summit October 8th at the Jackson Convention Complex.

In its third year, the summit’s goal is to highlight the inextricable relationship between energy and the economy. Energy development has been a major area of focus for Governor Bryant’s Administration.

“Mississippi continues to strengthen its position as an energy state, and this summit is an opportunity for business professionals, students, and government representatives to be informed on the latest developments and challenges in the energy economy,” Gov. Phil Bryant said.
The summit is presented by the Mississippi Energy Institute, a non-profit policy group that seeks to diversify and expand Mississippi’s economic energy base.

“Governor Rick Perry, like Governor Bryant, understands what a strategic energy policy can achieve in terms of serving as an economic development catalyst and providing well-paying jobs and an abundant energy supply,” said Patrick Sullivan, President of the Mississippi Energy Institute. “Virtually every study points to energy as the foundation of Texas’ economic base. It has attracted a wide-range of manufacturing companies and served as the springboard for growth and prosperity. ”

This will mark the third Governor’s Energy Summit, with past keynotes featuring New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and the Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.

In addition to a keynote by Perry, there will be presentations or panels discussions including:

• A special address regarding workforce development by John Ratzenberger, the actor from the television series Made in America, which celebrated the USA’s manufacturing industry. Ratzenberger is also well known for his role in the iconic TV show Cheers as well as lending his voice to several blockbuster Pixar motion pictures.
• Dr. Scott Tinker, Director of the Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG) and the Director of the Advanced Energy Consortium, who has developed a vision for America’s energy future.
• A reunion of the popular panel discussion from the 2012 summit that included Harry Alford of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, Karen Halbert from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for 21st Century Energy, and Consumer Energy Alliance’s David Holt.
• Remarks from Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant

The summit’s program will start at 9 a.m. on October 8th and will conclude with Perry’s luncheon remarks.

There is no cost to attend the event, but space is limited. Registration deadline is September 22. To register for this year’s summit, CLICK HERE
